Question: Are SunScapes fabrics Waterproof ?Answer (Short): Commerical95 - No, Poly Mesh (porous)- Absolutely No
In a light rain shower, chances are the area below the shade canopy will remain dry. In a heavier rain, the Commercial95 will begin to weep after initial saturation. An important fact to point out here is that a Sculpted Canopy is not flat. It has ridges and valleys. Water will migrate to the valleys and sometimes even pool if the grade is gentle enough. This is not a bad thing, and the fact that Commercial95 is not waterproof is a good thing. Unlike waterproof vinyl and treated canvas, Commercial95 will naturally and slowly drain the pool of water so you don't have to. Remember...water is very heavy. Answer (Indoor): Our experience tells us that most interior fabric products will not require cleaning for many years. If necessary, small products can be washed on the gentle cycle of a typical residential washing machine. Larger products can washed on commercial equipment. Answer (Long): Commercial95 is the ideal fabric for Shade Canopies. Long lasting, durable, rot and mildew resistant, UV protection...and it looks good! This unique combination of properties also creates a moderate level of Water Repellency.
Answer (Outdoor): Most outdoor installations that we deal with are in use for 3-seasons. Our recommendation is that the fabric is rinsed with fresh water, air dried (completely), folded and stored for the winter. For year round installations in warmer climates, our products are virtually maintenance free. Occasional rain will provide adequate cleaning. In locations where accumulations of leaves and/or pine needles are expected, we recommend that the canopy be dismantled or periodically cleared of deposits.
